Returning to the Merchant Marine Academy of Hydra

A particularly meaningful visit to Hydra, as our Managing Director, Capt. Vassilis Terzis, returned to his roots at the Merchant Marine Academy of Hydra, the historic institution from which he graduated in 1976.

Following an invitation by Young Executives Shipping (YES) Forum as part of the “YES TOUR TO SCHOOLS” initiative, our Managing Director participated in discussions with both academy cadets and local students, sharing personal experiences from life at sea, professional insights from decades in shipping, and thoughts on the future of the maritime industry.

The visit focused on seamanship, leadership, discipline, technology, career development and the evolving opportunities within shipping, while also highlighting the importance of connecting younger generations with the maritime sector and strengthening the Human Element of our industry.

Returning to the Academy of Hydra nearly five decades after graduating made the occasion particularly special and emotional, reminding us that shipping is not only a profession, but also a lifelong journey shaped by tradition, mentorship and human connection.
